Shame on you, Bowen Designs

I've said it recently, but what the hell I'm talking to myself here anyway. Tom Kuntz can sculpt the hell out of some putty or clay.  Quite awhile ago Bowen released a pre-painted statue of Vampira, sculpted by the man himself.  Man, did I want one when I saw it advertised on the back of AFM.  But lack of cash and reasoning that having the kit of her on the couch was enough for me won out and I went without.
Recently I snagged one, but it was a bittersweet moment.  It was like getting the coolest thing ever in the mail (as if getting stuff in the post isn't still always the best) but there was this gunk all over it.

I got a great deal on it, as it was damaged in places, but It's not like I wasn't going to strip it anyway.

Wow.  I mean this is even bad for a pre-paint.  I've seen some of those dudes put out some pretty nice work too.
I couldn't stand it, shit had to go.

Don't let the fume-free fool-you.  This stuff doesn't work.  Get the regular or the extra-strength stuff.  I ended up ditching this can after not making much progress...
Oh, and it eats your skin as good as paint.  Dig?

Baby.

I had at one point thought I reached the resin when I hit this off yellow layer.  But no, it was another layer of paint.  I couldn't believe how thick it was on.  I suppose once I put primer and paint and everything back on it, but still..

Finally, and what a beauty.  It was indeed like uncovering a treasure.
You compare this to the closeup above, which looks like a Barbie Doll. Crazy.

Thad you've done a wonderful thing stripping that hideous prepaint. You can't even tell Thomas had done such a great job sculpting it through that horrible factory job. I truly look forward to seeing what you can do with this piece of porcelain. Or was it resin?

Something about those high cheek bones, man oh man.

Isn't she lovely? I thought it was resin at first, but It's porcelain. The one nice thing they did with it is that there are wires through the strands hanging off the cuffs. They still break though, hahaha

    Hi Thad,

So, do you recommend stripping all the paint off Vampira and leaving her as an unpainted kit? Is that an option or is repainting the only option? You seem to have gouged some areas trying to get the paint off. What is the best stuff to use to remove the paint but not damage Vampira? I'd be interested in any moe tips.
